Android Release Notes

Updates released to Google Play for Band Central on Android phones and tablets.

Band Central for Android 4.1

September 2026

  • Keep text size on this device: in Settings, Display, turn it on and that device keeps one text size of its own for every song, whatever your other devices are set to. Off by default, so nothing changes unless you choose it.
  • Metronome accent patterns: set which beats in the bar are accented instead of just the first, and choose a different click sound per song, saved with the song.
  • Share songs to another band, several at a time: pick as many as you like from the catalogue and send them in one go. Songs that cannot be copied are reported by name and stay selected, and cancelling part way through keeps what already copied.
  • Band owners now see a banner when files are still on the device they came from, offering to move them into Band Central Storage, with a count of how many are waiting.
  • Setlists show three lines per row, matching the iPad app, and breaks show their own length under the running set time.
  • A new break now starts at 10 minutes, editing a break no longer rewrites its length, and breaks are no longer given a song number.
  • The subscription screen now explains Band Central Storage and shows how much each plan includes.
  • Use new lyric view is no longer marked as a preview, and two old pinch-and-zoom settings have been removed. They applied only to the classic view, did not work on many devices, and hid the Text Size control when switched on.
  • Fixed bold, italic and underline in Format Lyrics doing nothing. Underline in particular was worked out correctly and then never drawn.
  • Fixed per-song lyric formatting disappearing when it had been set on another platform.
  • Fixed the song list and setlist list quietly going out of date. After leaving the screen once they stopped receiving updates until the app was force closed.
  • Fixed adding the wrong songs to a setlist: searching while picking songs could silently move your selection onto different songs.
  • Fixed sharing a song to another band marking every copied lyric version as the default.
  • Fixed turning the chord grid off on the website not turning it off on a lyric already open.
  • Fixed setlists showing no song count after a Setlist Helper import, and break lengths disagreeing between platforms.
  • Fixed a file becoming unreachable if it was removed while its attachment was still being cleaned up.
  • Fixed the footer, the song navigation bar and setlist break rows glowing white on the dark themes.
  • Fixed a crash when the song list loaded immediately after signing in, and a crash when the lyric editor was opened without a song.

Band Central for Android 4.0

August 2026

  • Band Central Storage: documents and audio you attach to a song upload to your band and appear on your bandmates devices automatically, instead of living only on your device.
  • New Files view: see every document and audio file in the band, where each one is stored, and which ones are not reachable -- then repoint the broken ones without hunting through songs.
  • Migrate to Cloud Storage moves the files you already have into the band's storage in one pass, with per-file progress and a stop button.
  • Download all files for offline use before a gig, with progress as it runs and any file that fails named so you can retry just that one.
  • A storage meter in Settings shows how much of your plan you have used.
  • Sharing a song with another band you own now carries its documents and audio across too.
  • Playback controls now appear on your lock screen and in the notification shade.
  • Audio keeps playing while you navigate around the app, and hiding the audio player now sticks until you bring it back.
  • Long operations show their progress instead of a frozen screen.
  • The song list no longer claims it is empty when a filter is just hiding your songs.
  • Everything new is translated into all 10 supported languages.

Band Central for Android 3.75

July 2026

  • Share songs between bands you own, and the copies stay in sync.
  • Duplicate a lyric version to start from its lyrics and chords, and set your own default version.
  • Cannot edit a version another member owns? Make your own editable copy.
  • Chord diagram settings are now one personal default for every song.
  • Editing the key or tempo of a song now updates it in your setlists.
  • Fixed a crash when opening some setlists.
  • Updated for Android 16, plus stability improvements.

Band Central for Android 3.71

July 10, 2026

  • New: tapping the play button now shows the auto-scroll speed controls so you can adjust the scroll rate mid-song. Turn it off under Configure Play Button if you prefer the old behavior.
  • Fixed an app freeze when swiping quickly between PDF charts, especially on tablets with large chart files.
  • Fixed a crash at app launch on some devices.
  • Fixed a crash after long lyric viewing sessions in big setlists.
  • Fixed the song key badge being unreadable in dark mode: it is now a white circle with black text.

Band Central for Android 3.70

July 7, 2026

  • Invite band members by email even if they do not have a Band Central account yet: they get an invite link and join your band automatically when they sign up.
  • Chord diagrams add three instruments -- Mandolin (GDAE), Bouzouki (Irish GDAD), and Piano -- plus a Labels setting for fingering numbers, note names, intervals, or plain dots with the root marked. Chord diagram setting changes made on another device now apply instantly.
  • Use the new Add to Setlist action on any song in the catalog to drop a song into one or more setlists at once.
  • Attach a YouTube link to a lyric and open it in one tap; songs without a link open a YouTube search for the song and artist.
  • The Display menu was reorganized with a Show option for the title, key, tempo, chords, and navigation bar toggles, and it now appears on PDF and document lyrics too.
  • Drawing fixes: starting an annotation stroke at the screen edge no longer triggers the system back gesture.
  • Also fixed: a bug that could reset a paid band plan when saving band settings, and a crash when leaving a lyric while chord diagrams were still loading.

Band Central for Android 3.6

June 28, 2026

  • Chord diagrams arrive. Band Central now draws fretboard chord diagrams for the chords in your ChordPro lyrics.
  • Choose how you see them: a Chord summary of every chord at the top of the song, Inline diagrams above each chord, or a pinned Bottom, Top, or Right strip that stays in view as you scroll.
  • Switch between guitar and ukulele, turn on left-handed shapes, make diagrams capo-aware so a capoed song shows the shape you actually play, adjust the size, and tap any chord to flip through alternate voicings and pick the one you use.
  • Diagrams follow the Transpose tool, and a ChordPro define directive in your song sets a custom shape.
  • Your choices are saved with each lyric and sync across your devices.

Band Central for Android 3.51

June 2026

  • A follow-up release focused on annotation and navigation fixes. Annotations you draw on an iPhone or iPad now line up correctly when the same ChordPro lyric is opened on Android, and your saved annotations reliably load every time you reopen a song.
  • Long-press a comment or a text note on a lyric to edit it directly.
  • The side menu has been redesigned to match the iPhone and iPad, with a header showing your band name and its song and setlist counts, and a footer showing your signed-in name, plan, and the app version.
  • Help now opens inside the app instead of jumping out to your browser.

Band Central for Android 3.5

June 2026

  • Drawing and markup arrives. Mark up any PDF chart or ChordPro lyric with a pen, highlighter, eraser, and movable text notes in 10 colors -- great for cuts, repeats, key changes, and cues.
  • Your marks are shared with the whole band and sync in real time, and they never change your original file.
  • You can now Share and Print a PDF chart with your annotations included.
  • Adding a lyric now makes it your default and clears the old one.

Band Central for Android 3.0.1

June 2026

  • Fixed a crash when importing PDF song files from Dropbox, and a crash that could happen when viewing your setlists.
  • Setlists now rearrange only after you tap Reorder, so songs do not move by accident.
  • The Songs A-Z index now shows non-Latin letters (such as Greek) instead of grouping them under "#".
  • Import now accepts more ChordPro file types (.cho, .crd, .chordpro, and more).
  • In Page Sections, each section is a fixed page that fits the screen, and a foot pedal moves one section at a time.
  • The free plan now includes up to 50 songs (up from 25).
  • Band cards now show your plan as a label, with an easy way to subscribe.

Band Central for Android 2.1.2

May 2026

  • Show/Hide display settings now sync across devices and stay applied as you swipe between songs.
  • Setlist total time no longer includes break duration.
  • Lyric scroll position is preserved when changing display settings.
  • Setlist contents update in real time.
  • Small Band plan raised to 6 members.
  • Fixed crashes, keyboard overlap when editing lyrics, stale metronome beat count, and improved Dropbox file sync reliability.

Band Central for Android 2.1.1

  • Faster lists with live updates.
  • A-Z scroller on Songs.
  • Swipe between songs in the lyric viewer.
  • File-type filtering on import.
  • A Detect Pedals settings screen.
  • A long list of crash and stability fixes.
